Canadian homeowners now have two energy programs to choose from including the Federal Government’s new Canada Greener Homes Grant and Enbridge’s Home Efficiency Rebates.
The Canadian Greener Homes Grant offers homeowners grants of up to $5,000 to complete retrofit upgrades to their homes, including insulation upgrades.
attics, exterior walls, crawlspaces, basements, garages, exposed floors, and air sealing.
Home Eligibility The new Grant is available to eligible homeowners of the following property types: single and semi-detached, row houses, townhomes, mobile homes on foundation, low-rise multi-unit residential buildings, all-season cottages, and more. To qualify, you must provide proof of ownership as the primary residence.
How the Program Works 1. Register Online on the Greener Homes Grant Portal. The homeowner is responsible for registering. 2. Complete a pre-upgrade energy audit on your home with a grant program-approved auditor. The cost will be reimbursed (after) as part of the program. 3. Get a free assessment from Healthy Insulation for insulation and air-sealing upgrades. 4. Hire Healthy Insulation to perform professional upgrades of your choice. 5. Complete a post-upgrade energy audit on your home with a grant program-approved auditor. The cost will be reimbursed (after) as part of the program. 6. Download all documentation on the Greener Homes Grant Portal to receive your grant. Keep documentation for records.
Notes: The homeowner must perform a pre-and post-energy audit which is reimbursed (after) up to $600. Grant amounts received cannot exceed the cost of the retrofit as displayed on your invoice. Homeowners must complete at least one energy efficiency retrofit upgrade.
